Coal India Ltd (CIL) Q2 FY26 Earnings: State-run miner Coal India on Wednesday reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 4,263 crore for the quarter ended September 30, missing analysts' estimates. The quarterly net profit fell 32.1 per cent compared with the corresponding period a year ago. Shares gave up their intraday gains to plunge into the red moments after the earnings announcement.
The CIL stock -- traded on exchanges BSE and NSE with the symbol COALINDIA -- fell as much as Rs 8.9, or 2.3 per cent, to Rs 382.40 apiece on BSE. At 1:55 pm, Coal India shares were down 2.0 per cent for the day, at Rs 383.6 apiece.
Coal India's September-quarter revenue fell 3.2 per cent on a year-on-year basis to Rs 30,187 crore, according to a regulatory filing.
While the top line beat analysts' expectations, the bottom line failed to meet the mark.
According to Zee Business research, Coal India was estimated to register a consolidated net profit of Rs 6,240 crore with Rs 29,950 crore in revenue for the September quarter.
Coal India's margin shrank by 540 basis points (bps) -- or 5.4 percentage points -- to 22.2 per cent or the July-September period.
Its margin had stood at 27.6 per cent for the year-ago period.
Margin is a key measure of profitability.
Coal India dividend per share
The state-run miner declared an interim dividend of 10.25 per share -- a 102.5 per cent payout given the face value of Rs 10 per share.
