The Ministry of Culture has set up a High-Level Committee to plan and supervise the commemoration of the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The committee will be headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It brings together former Presidents, former Prime Ministers, Union Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers, parliamentarians, spiritual leaders, academicians, industrialists, artists and sportspersons.

Among the members are former Presidents Pratibha Patil and Ram Nath Kovind, former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and several Chief Ministers including Nitish Kumar, Mamata Banerjee and Yogi Adityanath.

The committee also includes spiritual leaders such as Mata Amritanandamayi and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, along with eminent personalities like industrialists Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Azim Premji, Shiv Nadar, sportspersons Kapil Dev and Mary Kom, CBFC Chairperson Prasoon Joshi and educationists, authors and journalists.

According to the mandate, the committee will approve policies, programmes and events linked to the centenary celebrations. It will also decide on the schedule of activities and guide preparations for the year-long observance.

The centenary will be marked through a series of cultural, academic and public initiatives highlighting Vajpayee’s contribution as a statesman, orator and poet.
