Kim Soo Hyun faces another lawsuit, advertiser seeks 2.8 billion KRW amid Kim Sae Ron dating scandal

It appears Kim Soo Hyun is facing significant legal and financial repercussions stemming from the controversy surrounding his alleged relationship with Kim Sae Ron. News broke today, May 2nd, that a company, identified as 'A', has filed a lawsuit against the actor and his agency, GOLDMEDALIST, seeking a substantial 2.8 billion KRW (approximately 2 million USD) in damages.

The core of the lawsuit revolves around a breach of their advertising contract. Company A contends that the intense negative public reaction to the allegations of Kim Soo Hyun dating Kim Sae Ron, particularly given her age at the time the relationship reportedly began in 2015, has severely tarnished their brand image. As a result, they are not only demanding a full refund of the modeling fees they paid to the "Queen of Tears" star but are also seeking additional compensation for the damage inflicted on their reputation. The company has evidently decided to terminate their association with Kim Soo Hyun entirely.

This lawsuit from Company A is not an isolated incident. The report indicates that at least two other companies have already initiated legal action against the actor, bringing the total claimed damages to over 3 billion KRW (approximately 2 million USD).

Worryingly for Kim Soo Hyun, further reports suggest that more advertisers are contemplating similar legal steps. These companies are reportedly weighing their options, considering demanding a refund of their investment or imposing further penalties on the actor due to the perceived negative impact on their brand image and potential market value.

Entertainment law expert Park Sung Woo of Woori Law Firm provided some context, stating that it is widely known within the industry that Kim Soo Hyun holds advertising contracts with approximately 15 brands, with individual domestic contracts valued at around 1 to 1.2 billion KRW.

This information paints a concerning picture for the actor. If a significant number of these companies pursue similar damage claims, Kim Soo Hyun could potentially face an overwhelming amount of debt. The situation underscores the significant influence an actor's public image and personal controversies can have on their professional endorsements and financial well-being in the highly scrutinized entertainment industry. The unfolding legal battles will undoubtedly be closely watched by both the industry and the public.
