Muhurat Trading 2025 LIVE Updates: The Indian stock market is set to hold the special Muhurat trading session today, 21 October 2025, on the occasion of Diwali 2025. The Muhurat trading session is an annual ritual, considered highly auspicious, and marks the beginning of the new Hindu calendar year, or Vikram Samvat.

Muhurat trading session is a symbolic one-hour trading session conducted by the Indian stock exchanges and the commodity exchanges. This year, the BSE, NSE, MCX and NCDEX will mark the start of Samvat 2082.

A Block deal session will start at 1:15 pm and will close at 1:45 pm. Thereafter, a pre-open session for IPOs and relisted securities will be done from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm. After that, a normal Muhurat trading session will start from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm.

The Indian stock market is expected to open higher on Tuesday in the Muhurat trading session amid positive global market cues. Asian markets traded higher, while the US stock market rallied overnight.

In the previous session, the Indian stock market ended higher, extending its winning streak for the fourth consecutive session. The Sensex and Nifty 50 gained over half a percent each on Monday.

Muhurat Trading 2025 LIVE: While the near-to-medium term trend for domestic equity markets could be volatile, given global economic uncertainty, geo-political tensions and the pending outcome of the US-India tariff settlement, we expect select PSU counters to maintain optimism through Samvat 2082. With interest rates expected to come down further going ahead and the government’s focus on boosting consumption post GST rate cut coupled with income-tax benefits to salaried class, we expect PSU banking stocks to stay in limelight on hopes of strong demand for loans, said Navjeet Sobti of Almondz Global.

Sobti added that he expects select PSU counters in the power sector to attract strong buying going ahead amid the government’s move to accelerate spending on transmission, renewable energy, etc. While FII flows in domestic equities have been extremely volatile over the past few months, any positive outcome to the US-India trade deal and likely uptick in corporate earnings should revive overseas investors’ interest in local equities.

Muhurat Trading 2025 LIVE: The single major factor in India’s huge underperformance Samvat 2081 is the sharp decline in earnings growth to 5% in FY25 from average 24% during the three years before that. Since “in the long run the market is a slave of earnings” the major trend, going forward, will depend on how earnings growth pans out, said Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited.

The fiscal and monetary reforms implemented this year have started showing results. Particularly, the sales of automobiles and white goods have shot up early this festive season and, if this trend sustains, earnings growth will be good at around 8% to 10% in FY26, accelerating to around 15 % in FY27.

If this expectation materialises, the market will rally in Samvat 2082 compensating for the underperformance of Samvat 2081. In the short run the market may get a leg up from a possible India-US trade deal, but the long-term trend will be dictated by earnings growth, he added.
