Rising bond yields have had a significant impact on PSU Banks. India's 10-year bond yield, is currently at 6.68%, mainly due to a rise in crude oil price due to the war in West Asia, has hurt shares of PSU Banks. The yield on the 10-year had surged to nearly 6.8% during last week's sell-off.
For PSU Banks, they typically hold large portfolios of government securities. Most of these are generally held under Hold-to-Maturity (HTM) format, but a significant chunk is also held under the Available For Sale (AFS) form.
