'Not the first time India ...': Lashkar arm TRF denies involvement in Pahalgam terror attack

Published on 26/04/2025 04:17 PM

The Resistance Front (TRF), the shadow group of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has denied any role in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 innocent lives. Earlier this week, the terrorist organisation had claimed responsibility for the ghastly attack that took place in the Baisaran meadows of Anantnag district.

"TRF unequivocally denies any involvement in the Pahalgam incident. Any attribution of this act to TRF is false, hasty," the terror outfit said in a statement.

TRF claimed that shortly after the Pahalgam attack, an unauthorised message was posted from one of their digital platforms claiming responsibility. " ... It is part of an orchestrated campaign to malign the Kashmiri resistance," the banned organisation claimed.

In its statement, The Resistance Front added that it has reasons to be believe it was the result of a coordinated cyber intrusion.

"After an internal audit, we have reason to believe it was the result of a coordinated cyber intrusion. We are conducting a full investigation to trace the breach, and early indicators suggest fingerprints of Indian cyber-intelligence operatives," the terror outfit added.

"It is not the first time India has manufactured chaos for political gain," the statement further read.

The terror outfit's clarification comes even as several reports have emerged that the attack was carried out by a group affiliated with LeT, comprising mostly foreign terrorists, with support from local militants and under the control of 26/11 attacks mastermind and Lashkar chief Hafiz Saeed.

At least 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed when terrorists opened fire at Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam town in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on April 22. Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the killers of Pahalgam will be pursued 'to the ends of the earth' and promised to “identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers”.

In wake of the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack, India announced several diplomatic measures including suspending the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, expulsion of Pakistani military attaches, suspension of the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 and closing the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari among others.

In its response, Pakistan announced shutting its airspace to all Indian airlines and suspended trade with New Delhi. Pakistan also rejected India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and said any measures to stop the flow of water belonging to Pakistan under the pact would be seen as an "act of war".

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had, in January 2023, designated TRF as a 'terrorist organisation' under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for promoting terrorism, recruiting militants, facilitating infiltration and smuggling arms and narcotics from Pakistan into Jammu and Kashmir.

The group came into existence in 2019 as a proxy of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, which was involved in numerous terror acts, including the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
