Pakistan expecting war in 72 hours? What Pak Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said on possible Indian action after Pahalgam

Published on 29/04/2025 03:52 PM

In wake of the Baisaran Valley carnage in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif reportedly claimed that “next two to three days are crucial.”

Talking to news agency Reuters, Asif said that “something imminent will happen now.” He had also said that Pakistani armed forces are on high alert. He had also said that Islamabad is ready to use nuclear weapon if there is a threat to its existence.

As per Dawn, Asif said that the Pakistani military has briefed the Shehbaz Sharif government on the possibility of an attack by India. However, he did not give any details regarding his reasons for believing that an incursion was imminent.

However, a day later, Asif issued a clarification. The defence minister said he did not say that “a war will break out in next three days.” But in the same breath he added that the “threat of war is real.”

Earlier, in response to India suspending the Indus Waters Treaty in wake of bloody Pahalgam killings, Pakistan’s National Security Committee had said that any attempt to divert water will be considered as an “Act of War.”

Meanwhile, both countries are witnessing marked rise in firing incidents along the Line of Control. For fifth night in a row, Pakistan opened unprovoked firing, Indian security forces said. In New Delhi, the critical CCS will be meeting for second time tomorrow. Prior to the CCS meet, a high-level meeting at Ministry of Home Affairs took place on Tuesday. Senior officials of CRPF, BSF and NSG were present during the meeting.
