We believe that paying up a little for visible growth makes sense, and hence our model portfolio has a slightly higher PE of 23x (MSCI India at 22x) but has a lower PEG of 1.1x, vs 1.4x for MSCI India. Top picks for CY26 include Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, Cholamandalam, TVS Motor, M&M, Ambuja Cements, Lodha/Godrej Properties, Max Healthcare, JSW Energy, and GMR.

In a likely action-packed quarter, we expect earnings to beat, the RBI to keep its foot on deregulation, more reforms from the government, and a potential trade deal with the US. Overweight lenders and discretionary consumption to benefit amid India’s outperformance.

As the HDB Fin Serv’s six-month shareholder lock-in expires on Friday, up to 481.5 million shares, or 58% of its outstanding equity, will be available for trading, according to Nuvama Alternative and Quantitative Research.

 

Broking company Motilal Oswal and Nuvama downgraded shares of ITC Ltd. on Friday, January 2, following the announcement of the increase in cigarette excise duties on Thursday, January 1, 2026. Additionally, both brokerages have lowered their respective stock price targets.
