Stock Market Closing Bell: Sensex zooms 398 pts, Nifty defends 25000 as metal & IT stocks shine bright

Stock Market Closing Bell: The Indian stock market closed on a positive note on Thursday, lifted by strong buying in metal and IT stocks along with support from heavyweights such as Reliance Industries.

The BSE Sensex rose 398 points, or 0.49 per cent, to close at 82,172.10, while the NSE Nifty gained 112 points, or 0.45 per cent, to settle at 25,158.55. Steady foreign fund inflows also supported sentiment.

The broader markets reflected the upbeat mood. The Nifty 50 ended at 25,181.80, up 135.65 points or 0.54 per cent.

The Nifty Next 50 gained 0.56 per cent, while the Nifty Midcap 50 climbed 1.04 per cent.

The Nifty Midcap 100 rose 0.97 per cent, and the Nifty Smallcap indices also closed higher, with gains between 0.30 per cent and 0.77 per cent.

The Nifty 100 and Nifty 200 indices advanced 0.54 per cent and 0.62 per cent, respectively.

On the sectoral front, the rally was led by metals and IT. The Nifty Metal index jumped 2.17 per cent, driven by buying in Tata Steel, which surged 2.71 per cent to Rs 176.50. The Nifty IT index also rose sharply by 1.12 per cent, with HCL Tech gaining 2.21 per cent and TCS up 1.13 per cent.

Pharma stocks were also strong, with the Nifty Pharma index advancing 1.05 per cent, led by Sun Pharma, which climbed 1.37 per cent.

Other notable sectoral gains came from Healthcare (1.07 per cent), MidSmall Healthcare (0.94 per cent), PSU Banks (0.61 per cent), Realty (0.74 per cent), and Energy (0.45 per cent).

FMCG, financial services, and private banks also ended higher, though with modest gains.

Among the Sensex heavyweights, Tata Steel was the top gainer, followed by HCL Tech, UltraTech Cement, BEL, and Sun Pharma.

Other strong performers included Trent, Infosys, Kotak Mahindra Bank, NTPC, Reliance Industries, and Asian Paints.

On the other hand, some large-cap names ended in the red. Axis Bank was the worst performer, falling 0.90 per cent. HDFC Bank, Titan, and Maruti also slipped, while Bajaj Finance and ITC ended almost flat with marginal losses.
